European Fears Lead to Native Culture Destruction.A historian once said, "Neither the Spanish nor the English respected Indian culture and society: this lack of respect enabled them to destroy Native American life with few regrets." After studying this era in time one may come to the conclusion that the above is correct. English and Spanish explorers disrespected Native Americans because of their "savage" like behavior. This "savage" like behavior would include the natives material culture, religious culture, and social culture. When the Europeans first began exploration of territories unknown, due to current beliefs they could not accept the aspects of Native Americans material culture. They did not except this material culture because land was viewed much differently in Europe.
