Pilgrim and Slaughther House
Opening. “Pilgrim” by Timothy Findley and “Slaughter-House Five” by Kurt Vonnegut, are very similar in their writings in some ways and very different in others. They both touch on some of the same topics and ideas, but the they approach them in different ways, and sometimes have different views. The books are similar because they both discuss and portray women in different ways, wheter it be stereotypical or not. Another way they are similar that they both refer to travelling in time, but the authors go about this in two very diverse ways. One other main thing that is touched on in the book is the questions of; What is death?, and is there a life after death, perhaps a higher power? The two authors though, have differing ways of showing this. The question also arises that if these authors show their own feelings The women in Pilgrim seemed to be strong in character, yet their lives were based around the man, and tended to his needs. The book also fit the feelings about women for the time period it took place, the early 1900’s. The first character who showed a strong but caring appearance was Sybil Quartermaine, the loving friend of Pilgrim, a patient at the psychiatrict war
