Is America a Democracy?
"America, the land of free and the home of the brave"-- this common phrase puts a tear inmost people's eye when heard. However, "America the democracy" doesn't quite have the same ring when spoken. Depending on the person, some people might say that America is a democracy, and others might not agree. Likewise, a math teacher might say that a rectangle is not always a square, whereas a student might not agree. The truth is that America is not a true democracy, The people don't have direct say in our government, but America is a representative democracy, where the people have an indirect say in the government. The United States of America is a type of democracy in which the people elect representatives, who in turn make decisions about the government. The people do not have a direct vote on every single issue, because this would be a terribly inefficient (and sadly, only half of registered U.S. voters vote anyway); our elected legislators vote as In theory, anybody who has half of the people voting for him can become president, as long as that person gets the right amount of electoral college vo
