Stress is part of our life, is inevitable and contrary to the common perception, if within certain limit, is a necessity and essential in our life. ... Such stress is referred as Eustress or good stress (the Greek prefix "eu" means good). However, stress has the ugly side, referred as Distress (the Latin prefix "dis" means bad), that leads to poor performance, decreased productivity as well as health and psychological problems and even death. ... Selye introduced the word stressor as the causative agent for stress, which in his terminology is the resulting condition. For those with background in engineering or physics, the causative stressor is equal to stress and the resulting stress is known as strain. ... He concluded that stress plays some role in the development of every disease and that failure to cope with “stressors”, which can be any stimuli, can result in “diseases of adaptation” such as ulcers and high blood pressure.
