abc123

The South Bronx is considered the poorest district in the nation (Kozol 3), with problems such as drug abuse, hunger, AIDS, and violence running rampant. These problems are not easily solved, but it cannot be denied that this city is in need of financial help. The government claims to be helping but in reality everything they do benefits the wealthy and takes away from the truly needy. It disgusts me to know that one man has enough wealth to save an entire city from poverty-every child and every parent (Kozol 111). That is why I have to agree with David Washington when he explains, “People who let other people be destroyed do evil. People who know but do not act do evil too” (Kozol 96). In the book, Jonathan Kozol writes about a man who worked on Wall Street and managed to bring in more than $1 billion, “which was just about five times the total income of the 18,000 households of Mott Haven” (Kozol 111).
