Critically asses the evidence provided by officially recorded crime stats and those of the BCS.
It has long been argued amongst criminologists that there is no accurate empirical way of recording crime. However efforts are still made to build up as accurate a picture as possible about the quantity of crime taking place in society. There are many sources that the recording of official crime statistics rely on. The main source of these figures are the police, these figures represent the number of offences recorded by them, it is important to add that not all crime reported to police actually is recorded by them and included in official crime statistics.
