The birds in this novel seem to be the focus of Carlos’s visions and are important due to the symbolic meaning of hope or pain. In the beginning of the novel, cars of the government officials are Ford Falcons, but are described as the birds of prey. ... Focusing on the birds of this novel we have to see that Carlos is brought to the home of the Sternbergs who share such pain as Carlos. It is brought to our attention that the Sternbergs have a familiar insight with birds, as does Carlos.
