Setting of Death of a Salesman
The first page of Act One, in which the setting is described, seems to set the tone for the entire first act. When describing the Salesman’s house the reader is first made aware of the surrounding area and the “angry glow” that surrounds this “small fragile-seeming home. ... Thus, the home, surrounded by bigger buildings, seemingly boxed in, is the perfect setting for these characters who are desperate to find their dreams amidst a society constantly telling them what they are supposed to be dreaming, and in effect boxing them in as well.
