Recent Development In Ego Psychology and Object Relations/Final Assignment on Heinz Kohut In order to thoroughly illustrate the main structural, developmental, psychopathological concepts, and treatment principles of Dr. Kohut’s work, a patient case history will be presented. Using two of Dr. Kohut’s major works, The Analysis Of The Self and The Restoration Of The Self, the writer will attempt to explain the major therapeutic concepts of narcissism, including the therapeutic activation of the omnipotent object and the therapeutic activation of the grandiose self. Dr. Kohut’s therapeutic concepts will be discussed with the use of the patient’s personal and family history, as reported by him during weekly counseling sessions with the writer.
