... The story shows us how easily innocence is exploited by evil, however it leaves us with no doubt that good always triumphs, no matter what the obstacles. Ladies and gentlemen, adjudicators, chairperson and members of the opposition, tonight my team and I will prove to you that our media is failing us. We will bring to your attention that our media uses deceptive techniques in order to manipulate the public, and in doing so, abuses the trust we place in them. Taking into consideration that the ‘Media’ is such a broad term I will firstly try to simplify it. ... This can range from a variety of media including: radio, television, newspapers or the internet for example. It is a widely known fact that the media is an influential part of our society. We rely on this system to provide us with information that is up to date and trustworthy. ... The media can shape opinions and it can shape outlooks. However, if the media plays such a powerful role in our society shouldn’t there be certain responsibilities or obligations it must fulfil in return? ... A specific media’s commitment to the truth is directly connected with the extraordinary amount of power it can wield. ... This gift is constantly undermined by the media’s attempts to present us with heavily biased material. So the media is failing us, but more specifically ‘us’ as an age group.
