Senator Joseph McCarthey
Senator Joseph McCarthy vs. Abigail Williams Joseph McCarthy was born on November 14, 1908 in Grand Chute, Wisconsin. After taking his law degree at Marquette University in 1935, McCarthy served as a judge in Wisconsin from 1940 to 1942, and then enlisted with the U.S. Marines in World War II. He was elected to the U.S. Senate for his first term as a Wisconsin Republican in 1947.
