In the story Once More to the Lake the narrator recalls a tradition of his own that he would like to pass to his son. The father’s memories of the lake are as fresh and real as if the years never passed, however his son’s views of the lake are of a new generation. Memories of the lake to both will be forever etched in the thoughts of August past. Although, years have brought about changes to life on the lake, both father and son will have recollections that will forever form a constant bond between them. ... He bought some bass hooks and a spinner to go fishing in the lake in Maine. He took along his son who has never been up to the lake before. ... Then he would go on a canoe and paddle along the lake. ...
On that first morning the father and son went fishing on the lake. ... The lake was exactly the same every summer. Again here the years never passed; it was like everything stood still around the lake. ... The truth that time had moved on were the sounds he would hear by the lake.
