Urban Legends
What is an urban legend? ... Obviously, the tall tale legend is plausible enough to be passed down and believed by enough people that I don’t think the other percentage of people who have a poor opinion about urban legends matters. Urban Legends are the string that holds the American past and present together. Urban legends refer to stories that which may be humorous, humiliating or even horrifying. For instance, here is an example of one of my favorite urban legends: A friend of a friend had a grandmother who was a little bit "dotty" (Strange). ... Here is one side of yet another one of my favorite legends: A young woman was sunbathing on the beach and was just about to drop off to sleep, when she felt an insect running along her jawbone and then down her neck. ... (Emery) But as all urban legends go as they are retold from generation to generation they change. ... Although when most people think about an urban legend, a long drawn out story comes to mind. In some cases, urban legends can be titillating tabloid news or even fictitious recipes.
