Customer Driven Demand

|
... In this case study we will discuss the customer driven demand that is placed upon EDS and responses that are required of EDS to meet these customer driven demands. Response time to customer demands is one of EDS’s main stays in the intranet business. Most companies or manufacturers generally have days of weeks to meet customer demand, but many services, such as EDS, must be offered within minutes of the customer desires. Customer demands usually occur at their choosing, service operations may have difficulty matching capacity with demand. Also, demand arrival patterns from customers may fluctuate daily or even hourly, creating more short-term demand uncertainty.
Customer Driven Demand
Electronic Data Systems
The Typical Demand
EDS has several different customers within any one site location. ... EDS’s contract requires that the customer, on a certain date, relinquish control of their computers and computer support operating systems and EDS will assume responsibility of the entire existing operating system. This now puts EDS in a dual customer demand role. The customer may now demand that the existing system be repaired and order against the new system that is to be installed. The existing system customer demands are the hardest of the demands to satisfy, because some of the existing support equipment is no longer being manufactured by certain manufacturers.
