The short story "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce, begins with a wealthy plantation owner and strong supporter of the southern recession identified as Peyton Farquhar. He is standing on a bridge 20 feet high from the water who is about to be put to death for trying to sabotage an opertation being performed by the Federal forces. ... There is a soldier at each end of the bridge serving as a BLOCKADE as well as a line of infantry at ease between the bridge and the fort accompanied by a general watching the execution.
