Essay #1
HUMANISTIC HEROES
In Peter H. Gibbon’s essay, “In Search of Heroes” he claims that there are no heroes of today because of the modern day media. He believes that all of the Heroes of the past have had their names dragged through the mud, which has taken them off of the hero list. I myself believe that there are still heroes of the past and present. ... My parents would have to be my biggest and most important heroes. ... They are not perfect and that’s what I think makes them good heroes, ones that makes mistakes and can learn from them and educate themselves. ... Another reason why it might be harder for a person like Gibbon to find heroes in today’s world is because the values of society have changed for a lot of people. ... Also the world in its present state is more dysfunctional than it was in Gibbon’s youth, the divorce rate is over fifty percent and crime is more of a problem and it is just harder for kids to find role models and heroes.
