In this essay i plan to explore the relationship between The Wizard of OZ and the most common fairy tales. I have picked three fairy tales that i feel can best be compared with the The Wizard of OZ. The fairy tales that i have chosen are "Rapunzel", "Thumbalina", and "Sleeping Beauty". The motifs that were the most obvious were in "Rapunzel" contained Jelous witches ,both had the main charicter locked in a tower. ... In the "The Wizard of Oz" Dorthy is pursed throughout the entire movie by a jelous witch, the wicked witch is jelous of Dorthy, because she has the magical ruby red slippers. ... In the The Wizard of Oz the wicked witch locks Dorthy in a tower, because she is jelous of Dorthys shoes. ...
In the story of "Thumbalina" compared to The Wizard of Oz , both contain the idea of a long periouls journey home. ... in The Wizard of Oz Dorthy strolls along until she comes upon a poppy field, little does she know that the wicked witch has put a curse on the poppys.
