RELIGION VERSUS SCIENCE

“If natural science as we currently understand it, or as it is ever likely to be, is true, then Christianity is false. To the extent, therefore, that it is reasonable to believe the conclusions of natural science at any given time, it is unreasonable to believe Christianity.” I believe this statement is false, and that religion and science can coexist and both are reasonable. The reason that both science and religion can coexist is that science deals with the physical world whereas religion deals with issues surrounding morals and other subjects that cannot be proven by scientific theory. ... Science has proved some religious claims false, but it does not make the essential religious beliefs false and unreasonable. In this paper I am going to show that science and religion are both reasonable and true. First, I am going to explain the realm that science covers. Science deals with the physical world. Science deals with the patterns and relationships objects form with each other, such as the way the planets in our solar system move in accordance to inertia and gravity. The way science comes up truths such as these, is by way of the scientific method. ... Religion is true because it is divine. ... The specific religion that I am going to focus on is Christianity. ... Now that I have given some background data on both sides of the argument, I can show how both science and religion can coexist at the same time. ... Science has proved this through fossils that show the gradual change from monkeys to humans. Science has also proven that humans were not on the earth when the earth came into existence. ... We know this religious belief to be false and the scientific view to be true, so how can I be arguing that religion and science can both be true and reasonable? My reasoning is simple: Just because science has disproved one of the Christian religion’s creeds does not mean that religion is false. Religion can still be true and reasonable without the idea that God created earth six thousand years ago in six days.
