Homosexual Adoption Right or Privilege

As a society we have come to a point where gays and lesbians are gradually becoming more and more accepted, and this acceptance brings forth debates on heated issues such as gay marriage, gay adoption, and what the gay community calls their “fight for equality”. Do gays and lesbians have the right to non-discrimination in the workplace? ... Do they have the right to make their own choices about sexual orientation? ... But is it their right to adopt and raise a child? The controversy over allowing homosexuals to adopt children heated up recently when the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) voiced their support for homosexual adoption and popular talk show host Rosie ODonnell did the same in an ABC Primetime Thursday segment "For the Sake of the Children". ... The announcement made by the AAP says that based on their review of a "growing body of scientific literature" they support legal and legislative efforts to allow for same-sex adoption. ... In the case of the AAP, while a panel of 9 individuals made this announcement, a record number of Pediatrician AAP members are expressing their disagreement because they know that the research does not support homosexual adoption and they know whats best for children. ... In her interview she was quoted saying “I know I am a good mother, and I have a right to parent these children.” (ABC News) That statement is what seems to be the flaw in her argument, and the arguments of most every homosexual looking to adopt a child. How can it be a right to adopt children?
