Songs “The Dead’ is a short story that was written by author James Joyce. This story is one of the last works of the short story collections, The Dubliners. James Joyce was once Dublin’s most famous writer and poet. “The Dead is written form a third person point of view. The main character of the story is Gabriel. Joyce’s characters are usually incapable of taking decisive actions to improve their lives. This is a reason why we could compare Gabriel to the dead character Michael Fuery, because he appears to be all words and does not take action. The point of view of the story somewhat changes from third person to first person told form Gabriel. From the title, we might expect the story takes place at a funeral parlor. It is a surprise that this story is mainly about an Irish family who gather with friends for a celebration on a snowy Christmas Eve.
