What was Sophocles Message
Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex is a tale of patricide, murder, incest, suicide and self-mutilation. There are many different views and opinions that people have on what message is being sent out by Sophocles. One interesting take on it is that Sophocles is trying to warn his people. ... Sophocles wrote the story around the beginning of the Peloponnesian war, and he was possibly trying to warn them not to be too over-confident, as Oedipus was in finding the murderer of Laios, and look how he ended up. I feel that Sophocles was trying to imply that Oedipus the king was a warning in his own rights, informing the Athenian people that they couldn’t escape their own fate, which was apparently being overtaken by the Spartan army. ...
