Candle Lab
Purpose: Investigate what happens when a candle burns.
Procedure: The candle was lit. ... While the limewater was being filtered, we put a flask over the flame of the candle and collected moisture in it. ...
Safety: 1-19, 21-26, 32, 38, 43, 45, 50-53
Data: Observations
Candle white/ grey, smooth, skinny, cylinder shaped.
Burning Candle The heat energy made the wax melt, and the light energy too. ...
Conclusion:
This experiment was interesting because we learned about what makes a candle actually light. First of all, three physical properties of a candle are, it is cylander shaped, it is taller vertically than it is horizontally, and it is wax. During the burning process, physical changes happend to the candle. ... The candle wax melted, because of the heat given off by the flame. ... The wick at the top of the candle, curled over because it was being burned. ... And lastly, the candle got smaller. Even though this is pretty much the same as the wax melting, it is still a physical change in the candle. Also during the process of the candle burning, some chemical changes occured.
