Stress Fractures
Stress Fractures in Distance Runners: Protocol for Return There are two phases that are important for a successful return to running following a stress fracture: (1) Maintaining fitness while waiting for the fracture to heal and (2) a progressive build-up following clearance by our team physician. Phase 1: Maintaining Fitness In the weeks between diagnosis and return, the student-athlete will cross-train in our pool located on campus. The goal is to provide the student-athlete with a non-impact, high intensity workout to maintain their cardiovascular fitness level.
