The use of drugs and alcohol are obvious in the teenage world today. The average alcohol user begins drinking at the at of 13(Reference 10), and over 87% of highschool students have admitted to trying alcohol. Alcohol is involved in almost 2/3 of all date rape crimes, and is one of the leading causes of death among teens. Over 70 million Americans use illegal drugs regularly and 2/3 of all highschool seniors admit to using illegal drugs at one point in the highschool career.() The First person affected when a teenager uses alcohol or drugs is themselves. Drugs and alcohol affect the Brain causing it to shrink, drinking can lead to oral cancer, it can widen your blood cells, cause dehydration, damage motor skills and thinking abilities, and cause severe stomach disorders. (http://www.health.org/govpubs/ph323 + notecards) Drugs don’t only affect a teenager’s body they will eventually take over a persons life, drugs and alcohol will be the only things that matter and you will become poor and alone trying to get them. Americans spend more then 13 billion dollars a year on alcohol, and misses an average of 25 work days because of his or her drinking.
