Introduction Homosexuality is the sexual attraction to a person of ones own biological sex. It can be expressed as feelings and in sexual acts. Homosexuals are not accepted in today’s society by many people. In fact studies have proven that the most severe hostilities are directed at lesbians and gay men. In our presentation we will be talking about how homosexuals are discriminated and why. How is this group discriminated? The main reason why any group is discriminated is because they are just “different”. The dread, fear, or hate of gays is called homophobia. Homophobes believe that gays are a threat to the “one world” vision. They see homosexuality as a sign that society is disintegrating. This means that gays cannot be accepted or cannot exist because it is not “normal”. Those that fear and hate gay men and lesbians usually don’t think they know any. But there may be a number of people whom we socialize with who are gay. Homophobia develops in young people at an early age. Homophobic violence, stereotypes, limited laws, and prejudice are all acts committed against gays. The causes of homophobia There are many views on why people become homophobic. These are just a few: - Studies have shown that some men use hostility and violence towards gays to reassure themselves about their own sexuality. - Another reason why people are homophobic is because of the way they’ve been brought up. Lets say a child was told all his life that gays were bad, horrible people who live pointless, worthless, desperate lives, obviously he will grow up believing that this is true.
