Some of the European war tactics including beheading Indian sachems, taking prisoners, and separating families by sending women prisoners into European towns and cities and sending the males to Bermuda. The Europeans were so feared that the Pequot Indians that managed to flee had trouble finding a place of refuge because “the Indians in all quarters so terrified as all their friends are afraid to receive them. ... After all, the Pequot Indians attacked the Europeans first. ... The only thing the Pequot Indians might have been acting upon was their rising suspicions that one day the Europeans would attempt to conquer Indian tribes in order to obtain whatever they needed such as land, food, and water.
