... The first stanza expresses the ideas that no matter what is written about people, their strength of character and their perseverance will always rise to the forefront. ... Which leads the author to the next few lines where she says “Leaving behind nights of terror and fear,” I rise, Into a daybreak thats wondrously clear, I rise. ... “Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.” Once again the authors tone in the last stanza when she repeats “I rise” helps reinforce the feeling of pride and her sure attitude that was kept consistent throughout the poem. ...
