Geometric Shapes Learning and understanding of the different geometric shapes is incorporated in almost all curriculum programs. I believe that it is extremely important for children to develop geometry skills at a young age. Young children should be familiar with all shapes, not just the basic categories of every day shapes: circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares. Children should have thorough knowledge of the all the basic shapes before they are introduced to the different geometric shapes. Manipulatives are very essential for children of all ages, and elementary grade level is a good place to introduce these new forms and shapes.
