|
Society Zulu villages are led by the villages chief. Father’s are given respect, children often are scared of their dads and only talk to him when he talks to them first. The Zulu people have a strong culture which is replenished each year through festivals and traditions which includes Heritage day, which celebrates the life of Shaka Zulu. The Reed Dance festival is held each September. Thousand’s of virgins fetch reeds and bring them to the Zulu king to inspect. Many people like this festival. They believe it keeps the young girls pure until they get married. Women are thought of as worth and men often give 11 sheep to have their hand in marriage. Men often have many wives, depending on their wealth. Each woman is given a separate hut to live in. Zulu women are responsible for a lot of domestic work and chores.
