Heart Attacks
This essay is about heart attacks. In this essay I will tell you what a heart attack is, how to prevent a heart attack how to survive a heart attack, and how to get back to a normal life after a heart attack. The medical term for a heart attack is a “myocardial infarction.” The heart pumps blood through blood vessels throughout the body to supply all the cells of the body with oxygen. The heart muscle itself, called the myocardium, is supplied with oxygen-rich blood through the coronary arteries. A myocardial infarction, or heart attack, happens when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is stopped or greatly reduced. If the blood supply is cut off for more than a few minutes, the heart doesn’t get enough oxygen and begins to die. Permanent damage is done to the part of the heart muscle that is supplied by the blocked artery or arteries. Permanent disability or death can occur, depending on how much of the heart muscle is damaged.
