the 1950’s. This story has a great deal to tell us about the deep and complex world of adolescence. Holden is the boy, or rather young adult that the story is told by. He is able to provide for us an interesting and engaging perspective. He tells us a story about a small portion of his life when it was extremely turbulent and destructive. His emphasis on these events in his life, and not others, is a clue to how much value, as well as importance, he assigns to these events. He describes these events in a third person, flashback form. I believe that this was a spectacular novel because it gave us many important themes that can give us insight into the dark and complex world of adolescence, and build upon our main theme, growth and change in adolescence.
