The Agony and The Ecstacy
The Agony and The Ecstasy The Renaissance marked a rebirth for Europe from what many Humanists referred to as the “dark middle age”. During this time, many theories and philosophies were developed and or recycled from the period of antiquities. Among the new philosophies is Humanism. It has proven to be influential upon the society, the art of the day, the government, their architecture and is even displayed in the Catholic Church and properties of the papacy. From Humanism, the Italian Renaissance would value the beauty of the natural human body, learning, and Greek and Roman antiquity. Individuality, civic humanism, the liberal arts and Christian values would also be of the utmost importance within society. This plethora of philosophies can, to this day, be seen in the art of that great age. Humanism is movement which sparked great interest in Greek and Roman learning, especially in Italy. The study of things considered to be humanism is termed the “humanities”.
