Effects of Urban Sprawl on Atlanta Georgia
While Atlanta, Georgia, faces the problem of urban sprawl - as do many other cities - Atlanta is rather unique. ... Because of this factor, Atlanta has taken advantage of Mother Nature¡¦s gift and has in fact been called the fastest-growing city in it¡¦s geographic area, increasing from a mere 65 miles end-to-end in 1990 to 110 miles in 1997. I am writing to you in order to attract your attention to the negative effects that urban sprawl has had on the city of Atlanta. In fact, while expansion is good and the Georgia economy is likely thankful for the growth of Atlanta, urban sprawl can be problematic. There are numerous factors to support this theory including: central city population decline, increased income disparities, decreased level of education, fiscal sprawl problems, and environmental problems ¡V which I will focus on in this letter.
