Clearly, the Labor party would prefer to supply the drug to anyone that requires it but cannot afford to pay for it at the possible detriment to the economy and the Liberal party would prefer that people work to achieve enough success in order to pay for the drug themselves. The differences that exist between Liberalism and Democracy put them at odds with each other and being that they are both liberal democratic parties, it puts them at odds with themselves. ... With democracy being focused on the majority and liberalism being focused on the individual and both major parties being liberal democratic parties, conflicts such as the 1997-98 wharfies are inevitable.
