The essays begin to examine how and why tourist sites select and emphasises certain things and not others. I have started off by giving with a brief definition of tourism and then I have further elaborated on what aspects I feel plays an important role and why tourist are attracted to tourist destinations more often than normal spaces. The tourist site that I have visited was Ratanga Junction that is situated in Centurion in Cape Town and the following information are based on my findings. ... ”(Cooper, Fletcher and Gilbert: 1997) According to Cooper, Fletcher and Gilbert (1997:97), a tourist destination is basically a temporary movement from a destination outside the normal home and work place. These authors consider a tourist place where all activities undertaken during the stay and facilities created are aimed to attract and cater for the needs of the tourist. In other words what is mention by the above statement is that a tourist site is a site that has certain characteristics which makes it different from any normal site and this is done purposely to attract tourist to the specific venue. Gow (1997:) states that a tourist can be any one from a day visitor, people staying with friends or relatives to see something in that specific area or visitors from abroad.
