Dramatic Irony in Oedipus the King

Dramatic irony is defined as a relationship of contrast between character’s lack of understanding of their current situation at a particular moment in time, while the action is building up, the audience then understands what the characters situation really consists of in the story line. The true word “dramatic” in the phrases dramatic irony does not just mean that the irony is obvious, but in turn the irony will just be interesting.
