The lesson that Wexler is trying to teach America through her book, as I interpret it is: We as Americans prefer to suppress societal problems in the interest of, at least on the surface, tolerating each other; however repressing this issue does not make it disappear, until we deal with the issue candidly we can not expect to live in harmony.
