Reading Is Only Half the Battle

Throughout history, high school students have been summoned to read novels such as Animal Farm, Othello and the Crucible. We read about the rise and fall of many heroes, people and creatures. Carefully chosen characteristics and attributes are molded into a person who would best fit in a certain time, place or situation. Although in their novels, the characters seem perfectly sculpted, in our lifetime, certain aspects, (mentally, physically and emotionally), just aren’t as important. However, these heroes and heroines do possess strong qualities in which we can still consider important, necessary and an integral part of everyday life. On the basis of a ‘marriage’ relationship, it is certain that Desdemona would have countless qualities that would be deemed important in her lifetime, --as well as in our own. This well-mannered, beautifully fair woman is portrayed as the « ideal woman » in Shakespeare’s tragedy; Othello. From my list of options, I choose Desdemona as a perfect partner in life and love. Desdemona is very loyal to her partner and doesn’t shy from her emotions.
