Feeling Mexican
... In my immediate surroundings, I was either Mexican or Hispanic. ... Growing up I never really felt discriminated against or that I had to come to grips with being Mexican and fitting in. ... Although most of my friends were also Mexican, my parent’s friends, of which I was close to, were white. ... But I never felt any less for being Mexican. The only time I have actually felt discriminated against or have been made to “feel” less for being Mexican, was when I was an adult. ... In all my life I had never felt so “Mexican”, up until that moment. ... They brought up their family being proud of being Mexican, but also acknowledged that they were Americans now.
