Peter the Great was a very influential and powerful man in Russia. Peter the Great was born in 1672 and he died in 1725; Peter was tsar of Russia from 1682 to 1725. However, Peter’s reign did not come easy to him, peter first was named czar at the young age of ten along with his brother Ivan, they were both under the patronage of their sister Sofia due to there young age. In 1689 Sofia was overthrown and Ivan took the thrown alone, Peter then had to wait for the death of Ivan to fully take the thrown. During Peter the Great’s reign he helped to bring Russia out of the medieval times to such a level that Russia was considered a leading eastern European state. Peter Centralized the Government, built a Navy, and improved the army among many things. One of Peter’s major accomplishments was the rebuilding of the Army and Navy. ... Peter created two new elite Guards regiments, the Preobrazhenskii and the Semeovskii. Though Peter only improved the Army, he in all actuality created the Navy for Russia. ... As Russia lacked the necessary expertise, Peter the Great brought in foreign experts and by 1725, Russia had 48 ships of the line and 800 galleys.
