St.Tropez Pinewood by Paul Signac (1863-1935)
The subject matter of this painting is a landscape scene of a small fishing port, in the south coast of France. The scene is set at either sunset or sunrise. This is shown from the use of colour. The pink granite mountains of the Esterel can be seen in the background, across the sea. The rooftops of the St. Tropez houses have been put into the mid-ground with a sloping hill in front of them.
