How to write a commentary

Checklist for Writing an AS Lang and Lit Commentary Your commentary for each piece should be between 500 and 750 words. Your commentaries are worth 50% of your coursework mark. There are two main parts to a commentary – an account of the process of writing the piece and a stylistic analysis of the finished text. In the account of the process of writing, you can discuss any or all of the following: • Why you chose this topic and mode • How you did research and what you learned from it • The main difficulties in writing the piece • What you changed from draft to draft, and why • Results from audience testing (comments from people in the target audience about a drafts or finished piece) • You MUST identify the sources you used, and how you used them.
