The Urban Experience The urban experience is a city environment that may or may not include poverty and violence. There is an abundance of poverty-stricken environments in American cities. The reason most people live in the city is for work or because of a financial situation. Urban life is usually multicultural as well. Certain sections of cities may be divided by race, sexuality, or wealth. A common thing in the urban life is the territorial attitudes of many urban settings. One section of territory might have a dispute with another section that is of a different background. This sense can make someone from rural or suburban life feel scared or out of place. The urban experience can be described as a potentially dangerous environment, a poverty-stricken environment, or something personal.
