Comparing Howard Zinn and The American Pageant on Columbus Day

Zinn clearly states the more gruesome facts that everybody prefers to avoid while in The American Pageant the writers tend to lean towards the censored and less detailed version of Columbus’s arrival to the Americas. ... For instance the arrival of Columbus to America, well actually the Caribbean’s, is usually described as a prolific and triumph event as it is in The American Pageant. While as in Zinn’s interpretation of his arrival is described as a complete “genocide”. Throughout Zinn’s interpretation, he never loosens up, continues to be blunt and uses direct quotes to support his claim. Because of Zinn’s continuous bluntness it never bores me or looses my interest since what is being read are the true facts of this supposed “historical” event. ... Zinn quickly describes Columbus’s motives with this quote he uses to begin his view on Columbus, “…. ... He does not waste time to introduce the real Columbus, the Columbus whom is thinking of imprisoning these human beings who greet him, present them with food, water, gifts, and items to trade and the man who found this land mistakenly.
