Historical Significance of 9/11

September 11, 2001 was the day terrorism firmly established itself as an international issue, especially to those in North America. Few citizens - apart from reading insignificant headlines in the middle of their daily newspapers – thought about terrorism and war in the Middle East as anything more than a reality of life. That is, until, the terrorism hit home where it destroyed the lives of many Americans and changed the lives of all. “All”, as used, includes all those that live in North America; a continent made up of one of the most peaceful and most war-driven countries in the world. America, at the time, very much thought themselves to be untouchable, as most wars and discrepancies were fought and settled overseas, whether or not they were involved at all. Meanwhile, many citizens in Canada were closer in proximity to where the attacks were to take place than many of their American counterparts and were heavily dependent on their well being.
