How and why did transportation developments spark economic growth during the period from 1860 to 1900
The end of the nineteenth century saw life beginning to move faster and further, thanks to the mechanization of mass transportation. Not only did mass transportation allow greater ease at transportation for people, it also allowed for cheaper and more efficient transportation of goods, the beginnings of urban growth, and contributed to new industries. ... Before such widespread transportation, farmers living in the plains or newly settled areas remained isolated. ... Because they were now able to ship perishable goods great distances while preserving them, people could now enjoy foods from all over the country at any time during the year. Businesses that may have only prospered during certain growing times, such as fruit farmers, could now operate year-round.
