There are many anarchist principles discussed in both John Clark’s writing the Anarchist Moment and in Stephen Mitchell’s translation of Tao Te Ching. ... The ideas of ends and means and the emphasis of change are able to be related to anarchist beliefs and also to the modern twenty-first century life. ... However, there are small ways to invoke change for a major improvement of society.
In today’s society, billions of taxpayer’s dollars are being spent each year to prohibit the use of marijuana in the United States. ... By decriminalizing the use of marijuana, society would be a better and more satisfying place for all of its constituents. ... These excessive costs could be controlled with a simple piece of legislation that would help society in other component as well. ... There would be some ramifications along the way, but it is a small price to pay to reach the betterment of our society’s budget deficit. ... One simple change in America’s legislature could eventually have an immense effect on all of society. From better health care to a better educated society, many components have the ability to improve as an effect of merely one simple change.
However compelling this argument sounds, it would be almost impossible to achieve in our modern day society. ... We as a society are too close-minded and unwilling to change, even for the better, to allow such a change to occur. ...

Following the Taoist ideals, if the government wishes to lower the budget deficit, it must make some changes and loosen some of its restrictions, namely drug use, to allow it to thrive.
