Judicial selection

There are different ways of selecting judicial officials. There is also much talk about which of these ways is best. There are three different processes to selecting state judges. First is election, followed by appointment and finally the Merit Plan. The majorities of state judges are primarily selected or maintained through popular election. In a nonpartisan election the best qualified officials run for office not based on their party affiliation, but on personal qualifications.
