Reactivity Lab

Conclusion and Evaluation:
As can be seen from the data tables regarding the reactivity of Calcium Magnesium and Aluminum, Calcium is the most reactive followed by Magnesium, then Aluminum in both of the trials. Because it is understood that a chemical reaction is a change in an atoms electronic structure, the loss or gain of an electron, an important part in determining the reactivity of an element would be to find an elements ability to lose or gain electrons (in the case of a metal only the ability to lose). Ionization energy is the energy (in joules) required to remove an electron from its shell, and is a main factor in determining the reactivity of an element. For this reason we must first analyze the ionization energies of the metals to properly determine their reactivity.
