Bartelby
“Bartelby the Scrivener, by Herman Melville, is not an action packed piece of fiction as we would view one today. ... Couple this with the fact that there are very few scene changes and the majority of physical action in the story is the result of ordinary day to day office activities, and one comes to realize that “Bartelby”, as a story, surivives on the author’s ability to make the small actions or inactions of its characters extremely meaningful and, in some cases, make these characters an action or inaction unto themselves.
